UWI Masters in Telecom Policy and ICT Management

 

UWI-LogoA new Masters degree Programme in Telecommunications Policy and ICT Management, will be offered by the University of the West Indies (UWI), a DIRSI member starting in January 2008.

The new M.Sc. in Telecommunications Policy and Technology Management is intended to meet the demand for advanced training for telecommunications executives and technical specialists in the growing ICT and telecoms sector. The Programme will hone the policy-making and management skills of professionals who are already working in the sector or who may wish to enter the industry.

Among the courses to be offered are: Frameworks of Telecommunications and ICT Policy Making; Contemporary Telecommunication Networks and Technologies; Legal and Regulatory Frameworks; as well as Economics of Telecommunication, Information Technology and the Global Market.

UWI Vice Chancellor, Prof. E. Nigel Harris, in welcoming this new addition to the UWI, noted that “the existence of a Master’s in the area of Telecommunications and ICTs will meet the growing need within the industry for skilled and qualified professionals to fill high-level managerial positions for the public and private sectors.” For his part, incoming UWI Principal, Prof. Gordon Shirley commended the establishment of the Programme as an important initiative in strengthening the management and policy competencies of senior-level specialists in the rapidly-expanding telecommunications and information technology sector.

Commenting on the new Programme, the Executive Director of the Mona School of Business, Prof. Neville Ying said “the School is delighted to host this new Masters programme as an exciting addition to the existing MBA and EMBA offerings”. He said “The TPM will provide new and specialized skills for the growing ICT and Telecoms sector across the Caribbean region”.

The Academic Director of the new Master’s Programme, Dr. Hopeton Dunn said “the Programme will be delivered using both online and face to face methods, with local, regional and global content”. Applications for the M.Sc. in Telecommunications Policy and Technology Management will open on August 20, 2007 with the deadline for applications extending to September 28, 2007.

    I am not sure if this program is offer online distance learning. As a caribbean person it would be a pleasure to do a graduate degree program via distance learning even if I would have to travel to meet some residence requirements. Anyone having additional information please let me know.
