IFEX meeting declared to be of “National Interest”

The International Freedom of Expression eXchange (IFEX) General Assembly will take place this week in Montevideo, bringing together 150 participants from over 70 different organisations concerned with defending freedom of expression. The meeting is organised by the World Association for Community Radio Broadcasters (AMARC), the Institute for the Press and Society (IPYS), Comunica, and the Uruguayan Press Association (APU). The Government of Uruguay, as decreed by the office of the President, has formally recognised the importance of the IFEX meeting and declared the event to be of national interest. Comunica’s Director, Bruce Girard, will open the event on October 8 and will participate in further sessions during the week. IFEX meeting agenda.
