Third annual DIRSI young researcher competition

 

DIRSIA key priority for Regional Dialogue on the Information Society (DIRSI) is to promote research among young academics interested in the regulatory challenges posed by the development of the Information Society and knowledge among the poor and marginalised in countries in the Latin American and Caribbean region. Each year DIRSI holds a research grant competition directed toward young researchers (under 30 years of age) for the execution of projects that fall within the range of topics addressed by the DIRSI research agenda.

DIRSI is a network of academic researchers from various disciplines in LAC countries who study the challenges posed by the development of the Information Society and public policy and regulation problems and solutions. The focus of the members of the network is on the generation of knowledge that will facilitate reflection, and the design of policies that will promote the inclusion of all sectors of society in the benefits of the Information Society. At present, DIRSI is financially supported by Canada’s International Development Research Centre (IDRC), within the PanAmericas initiative.

Proposals for the young researcher competition can be made from any disciplinary approach and should include a pro-poor focus within the context of a market economy. Innovative proposals discussing these issues while introducing a genre perspective, social or cultural effects, or regarding environmental problems within the challenges of the development of the Information Society will be specially welcome. Priority will be assigned to the proposals that, within any methodological framework, involve significant empirical work; in particular those using databases generated by DIRSI and Observatory for the Information Society in Latin America (OSILAC), among others. Proposals should include implications for of regulation and public policy forulation.

Two winning proposals will be awarded US$ 5000 each for research.
