[7-9 February] Rohan Samarajiva of LIRNEasia will participate in the Third Annual Joint Roundtable on Communication Policy - The Future of Indian Mobile, hosted by the Aspen Institute of India in collaboration with the Aspen Institute, in Kovalam (Kerala), India.

The goals of the conference are to convene Indian and American business leaders, government policymakers, leading academics, and other experts to discuss government and business approaches to mobile commerce, mobile banking and m-governance that will have a positive effect on India’s economic and social development.

[30 - 31 January 2008] Kim Mallieu is presenting on “Building Caribbean Capacity for ICT Policy and Regulation” at the 1st Stakeholders meeting on Connect the Caribbean Initiative, to be held in Trinidad and Tobago. The main objective of the meeting is to establish a regional team to contemplate the mobilization of human, financial and technical resources required to bridge major gaps in ICT infrastructure development, enabling a harmonized policy framework and developing relevant and affordable services and applications.

[28 - 29 January 2008] Kim Mallieu is participating as a Working Group Facilitator for the Caribbean Association of National Telecommunications Organizations (CANTO) Annual General Meeting to be held in Suriname. The five standing working committees of the CANTO Board are expected to play a pivotal role in ensuring the success of the Connecting the Caribbean Initiative. These meetings seek to establish the committees’ terms of reference with regard to the Project.

The Colloquium will focus on the inter play between communications and the technology that supports it.

[4-5 February 2008] The Regional Dialogue on the Information Society for Latin America and the Caribbean (DIRSI) is organising a session entitled “Regional Issues relating to National ICT Policies and Strategies for Achieving the MDGs” for the Launch Seminar of the Latin America and Caribbean Regional Network of the Global Alliance for ICT and Development (GAID).

The seminar will take place on 4-5 February 2008 at the Radisson Hotel in San Salvador, El Salvador, in the two days preceeding the II Ministerial Conference on the Information Society eLAC2007 in San Salvador.
