DIRSI at Launch Meeting for LAC GAID

DIRSI[4-5 February 2008] The Regional Dialogue on the Information Society for Latin America and the Caribbean () is organising a session entitled “Regional Issues relating to National ICT Policies and Strategies for Achieving the MDGs” for the Launch Seminar of the Latin America and Caribbean Regional Network of the Global Alliance for ICT and Development (GAID).

The seminar will take place on 4-5 February 2008 at the Radisson Hotel in San Salvador, El Salvador, in the two days preceeding the II Ministerial Conference on the Information Society eLAC2007 in San Salvador.

LIRNEasia logo[19 Nov 07] During the second workshop on “Sharing Knowledge on Disaster Warning: Community-based Last-Mile Warning Systems,” LIRNEasia members will present and analyze the latest outcomes of the HazInfo Project. The event takes place at the Willow Room, India Habitat Centre (IHC), New Delhi; and is jointly organized by LIRNEasia and the All India Disaster Mitigation Institute (AIDMI) .

Professor Rohan Samarajiva, Executive Director of LIRNEasia, will present “Elements of a Community-Based Warning System” and “Roles of Policymakers, Regulators, Private Sector, and Civil Society.”

Nuwan Waidyanatha, HazInfo Project Manager, will present “Determination of Hazard at National Level: Sri Lanka Experience.”

Natasha Udu-gama, HazInfo Project Dissemination Manager, will present “First Responder Action: HazInfo Experience” and “Transmission of Warning to Local Levels: HazInfo Experience.”
