NRA Websites: Benchmarking National Telecom Regulatory Authority Websites is the title of a report just published by LIRNE.NET. The report takes a detailed look at the state of regulatory authority websites in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Latin America and North America and identifies benchmarking indicators for evaluating them.

Rohan Samarajiva,Executive Director of LIRNEasia, is an invited session speaker at the International Institute of Communications Annual Conference 2008: “Trends in Global Communications: Capturing the High Ground in an Uncertain World.” His presentation is entitled, ‘“Small Screen, Big Scream: How much has the mobile really delivered, how much more to come?”
The event is co-hosted by the Broadcasting Authority and the Office of the Telecommunications Authority, Hong Kong, 3-4 November.

During the ITU TELECOM ASIA 2008 (Bangkok, Thailand, 2-5 September), the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) launched the new Asia-Pacific Telecommunication/ICT Indicators Report – “Broadband in Asia-Pacific: Too much, too little?” The Report focuses on broadband connectivity as a vehicle for content to drive development and build a knowledge-based information society.
The ITU has also released its first statistical report on the Use of Information and Communication Technology by the World’s Children and Youth, which the ITU expects to update every four years.

LIRNEasia’s Executive Director, Rohan Samarajiva, will speak at the Telecoms World South Asia 2008, being held from 7-9 October 2008 at the Radisson Water Garden, in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
On the first day of the conference, Professor Samarajiva as an invited session speaker will present “Introducing broadband: investment conditions, regulatory challenges and addressing QoS.” He will also make a presentation on “Leveraging on next generation technologies to extend the service offering” as a panelist speaker in the afternoon session.
