This event is part of the Second International United Nations Platform for Space-based Information for Disaster Management and Emergency Response (UN-SPIDER), being held in Bonn, Germany.

Chanuka Wattegama, Organizational Development Director of LIRNEasia, will participate in the following two sessions at a World Bank workshop on “Enabling Disaster Risk Management in the Information Age”, 8-9 October, Washington DC.

8 October, 9:30 - 11:10, Session 1: Wattegama will give a presentation for the panel: “Overview of the Role of ICT in Disaster Risk Management: Global Trends and Role of the World Bank“.
9 October, 10:30 - 12:15, Session 4: Wattegama will present in the panel: “The Role of NGO Community in Using ICT for Disaster Risk Management“.

This event is organized by the World Bank e-Development Thematic Group, a global forum and community of professionals interested in the role of ICT in development, which is open for participation by both World Bank staff and external clients and partners.

[13 May 2008] Natasha Udu-gama will conduct a Colloquium on the LIRNEasia Disaster Project, which will elaborate the SMS module for this project.

The Colloquium will begin at 4.00 p.m. Sri Lankan time and will be blogged in real time via the LIRNEasia website.

[5 March 2008] LIRNEasia’s Project Dissemination Manager for the Last Mile Hazard Warning System (HazInfo) project, Natasha Udu-gama, will act as facilitator and presenter on “Methodology, Preparedness, Training and Community Organization” and “Determination of the Hazard from the National Level” from the HazInfo Sri Lanka experience at the Sharing Knowledge on Disaster Warning: Community-based Last-Mile Warning Systems conference.

Nuwan Waidyanatha, Project Manager for LIRNEasia’s Evaluating Last-Mile Hazard Information Dissemination in Sri Lanka project will present “Transmission of Warning to Local Levels” and “First Responder Action”. LIRNEasia Executive Director, Rohan Samarajiva will present “Elements of a Community-Based Warning System” and “Roles of Policy Makers, Regulators, Private Sector, & Civil Society”.

The event will take place at the Hotel Borobodur, Jakarta, Indonesia 4.
