LIRNEasia report on being a virtual organisation

 

LIRNEasia logoLIRNEasia has released a report on the challenges and benefits of being a virtual organisation (VO). In order to be able to undertake in a number of different countries and also to have influence across the Pacific region (and beyond), it was imperative that LIRNE adopt virtual organisation strategies. To make their experiences useful for others, LIRNE has documented their efforts, outcome and lessons learned. The report is intended for any /civil society (or even private sector or government) organisation, with limited staff, and which intends to work from geographically distant locations. It is also useful for project-based organisations with limited overhead budgets.

Counting mobile phones, SIM cards & customers

Ewan Sutherland, Fellow at the LINK Centre has just completed a draft study, “Counting mobile phones, SIM cards & customers.” This paper discusses the challenges of counting the number of mobile subscribers in context of the reality multiple SIM card ownership. This has implications for counting the unconnected, for roaming and mobile termination rate regulation, among others.

11th Economics of Infrastructures Conference

tudlogo.JPG[22-23 May 2008] The Economics of Infrastructures section in the Faculty of Technology, and Management at Delft University of Technology, will hold its 11th Economics of Infrastructures Conference on the theme of Transitions in Utility Infrastructures. Regulators and representatives from industry will present their views on and discuss the latest developments in the governance of infrastructures. The conference will be a mixture of plenary keynote session and workshops addressing specific transition issues. Keynote speakers will address the transition in either a specific sector (energy, telecom, water) or from a specific perspective (sociological, technological, economic, political, historical).

CPRsouth conference report

 

LIRNEasia logoLIRNEasia’s report on CPRsouth2: Empowering rural communities through ICT and is available for download from the CPRsouth website. The conference was held at IIT-Madras, Chennai, India from December 14-18, 2007. The collection of conference papers and presentations is also available; as are papers and presentations from the first CPRsouth conference and photos from both events.
